Fantasmo Episode 53: Bad Moon Rising Vol. 3

Hey Superfans!

A big thanks to all of you who came out in the bitter cold for our tribute to Bela Lugosi! It was a fantastic way to start off the new year, and we’re going to keep up the high standards with our February show. As most of you I’m sure know at this stage of the game, the long delayed Wolf Man remake starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins is finally coming out in February. Needless to say we’re pretty excited about it, and particularly my Team Fantasmo partner Rob who holds the original in pretty high regard. As such we thought this would be a fine time for another installment in our Bad Moon Rising series, which celebrates all things werewolf. If you’ve been to Bad Moon Rising before, you know we usually have a combo of one classic werewolf film, and one recent film that has a shot at classic status. Given the timing of the remake we’ve decided to at long last screen the original Lon Chaney Jr. masterpiece. We can’t imagine a more perfect way to see this than on our big screen in glorious Dolby Digital . . . the ultimate prelude to checking out the remake. For our second feature we’ve picked a Werewolves on Wheels type film called Skinwalkers, which combines werewolves and motorcycles (always a potent mix). It’s quite a departure from the classics, but we feel it offers a fun contrast nevertheless. Without any further ado here are your full Episode 53 details:

When: Friday, February 5th, 8:00 p.m.

Where: Chesapeake Central Library, 298 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322

8:00 p.m.: The Wolf Man

9:15 p.m.: Skinwalkers

We have a lot of exciting things planned for 2010, and we’re off to a running start with two months worth of classic monsters. Keep watching the blog for info on Fantasmo, a special event coming at the end of January that you won’t want to miss, and some cool reviews I’ll be posting shortly! And of course be sure not to miss this third time’s a charm edition of our Bad Moon Rising series on our bigger than life screen . . . THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN!

Indeed Jim, the Lugosi fest was a great way to kick off 2010. That Bela box set is on its way in the mail!

I am looking forward to seeing The Wolf Man on the big screen. I just might have to pull my ole Wolf Man mask out as well just for the event!

The remake looks top notch to my eyes. The cast is surely well put together and I am going to walk into the theater with an open mind. I'm not big on remakes but for some reason it doesn't bother me to see a retelling of the Universal classic.

Hey Daniel,
You should definitely pull out that mask - there will never be a more appropriate occasion outside of a full moon of course : )

I'm not big on remakes either, but it looks very cool . . . and even has somewhat of a classic feel. The most interesting cast member to me is actually Hugo Weaving. He was incredible in the Matrix films, and was the best thing about V for Vendetta. Looking forward to seeing what he does with this character!

Best, Jim
